HealthGate Executive Team

William Reece, Founder and CEO

William (Bill) Reece founded HealthGate in 1994 with a vision to bring quality healthcare information to healthcare organizations – and ultimately consumers -- through the fledgling Internet medium. During the company’s first years, Bill focused on building one of the industry’s most respected and comprehensive repositories of healthcare content, through licensing agreements and original, peer-reviewed articles. Bill led the company to a successful public offering in 1999. In the following years, HealthGate forged strategic alliances that bolstered the company’s content offerings, but also catapulted the company into new arenas as the content market faced consolidated. Trends that Bill identified to drive HealthGate into its next evolution were related to quality assurance for healthcare institutions and organizations, which encompassed Evidence-Based Medicine and related guideline development/standardization and patient education initiatives. In 2006, HealthGate shifted its focus on a technology the company had been developing called Collaboration Architect. Under Bill’s leadership, HealthGate is currently the only ECM (Enterprise Content Management) vendor singly focused on the healthcare market with its collaboration management technology. Bill recognized early on the complex needs facing the healthcare industry and the overwhelming number of documents that must be created, reviewed or updated each year.

Prior to founding HealthGate, Bill served in several positions, including Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Manager of U.S. Sales and Marketing Representative at PaperChase, a medical literature retrieval software company owned by Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.

He and his wife Mary reside in Boston.
